Yoga for Arthritis
In one of the new classes I am teaching here in my new town, a new yogi showed up to class. He was wearing tennis sneakers, bench-pressing gloves, and let me know he wouldn't be using a mat because of his severe arthritis. He, however new to my class, is not new to yoga, so I told him to follow his limits and back off when he needed to.
My experience with yoga and arthritis is fairly limited. The practice and poses you chose to do will vary greatly depending on where you experience arthritis, too. Nevertheless, I ask my sweet yoga community for advice: any suggestions for this one?

Yoga for Arthritis
The following sequence tries to put less pressure on the wrists (a typically sensitive joint) and the knees (another biggie). It also seems like locking out the knees might not feel as good as keeping a slight bend during the postures.
- Sukhasana (Easy Pose)
- Garbasasana (Child's Pose)
- Uttana Shishosana (Puppy Pose). Hold for 5-10 breaths
- Dolphin Pose
- Malasana (Garland Pose), using block/blankets under heels
- Bharadvajasana I (Bharadvaja's Twist). Repeat other side.
- Garbasasana
- Sphinx pose (modified Bhujangasana, Cobra Pose)
- Anantasana (Eternal One Pose)
- Repeat steps 8 and 9 on other side
- Navasana (Boat Pose, on stomach)
- Salabasana (Locust Pose)
- Garbasana
- Uttana Shishosana
- Dolphin Pose
- Tadasana (Mountain Pose)
- Vrkasana (Tree Pose). Repeat other side
- Pavana Muktasana (Wind Relieving Pose). Repeat other side

- Take torso towards one leg, back through center, and finally towards other leg (Parivrtta Prasarita Padottanasana)
