Coming Out

A lot of the focus in yoga classes is devoted to precise instruction on how to come into a pose. Really, however, instruction should sometimes be more like the hokey pokey: "You put your right arm in, you put your right arm out." Because instruction is heavy on the former and weak on the latter, it can be easy to drop our attention in the relief of the release. The pose is every moment of the pose; keep engaged with your breath and focus.

Future-minded folks have the hardest time with this. The second they realize what the next asana is, they are already there, even if they are still transitioning. Being present in your yoga practice is hard, but I got faith. Try out this yoga sequence, nothing fancy, really, but bring your attention to transitioning out the pose. I hope you like it!

Coming Out

Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings." -Rumi
