Ganesha Playlist

When I was younger, I loved ancient Greek and Roman mythology. In Mrs Damore's 7th grade English classroom, we read parts of Beowolf, and I would sneak a book about the gods of Greece inside. I never got caught, but over the years wondered if you can get in trouble for substituting one book for another.

Anyway, raise your hand if you were a dweeb. Right.

Now, in my ripe, older age, I find myself drawn to some of the Mahabarata/Bhagavad Gita stories/mythologies/lineage. Especially those about Ganesha. For whatever reason, different forms of Ganesha (iconography, statues) have made their way into my life and home.

Long story short, he's my guy. In honor of Ganesha, Ganesh, Ganapati, here's a playlist of songs and kirtans dedicated to him and a sequence to go with it. Jai, Ganesha!

My personal favorite of the songs that follow is Jai Uttal's. It's the one with the little kid starting it off in the most ridiculously wonderful way. It's a peppy, happy version and good for dancing around the room, too.
